Name this former MLB ballplayer and win a prize…

21 Feb

Let us clarify. We meant prize as in the chance to showcase your TV commercials knowledge to the entire MLBlogs community by naming the person in the photo below and telling us what the ad was for.

Here’s a hint:

  • The team that made use of this instructional video won back-to-back-to-back AAU National Championships (most likely in the early 90’s judging by the video quality in the actual commercial, which we couldn’t find on YouTube).

Also, what’s up with the hat? Really? Who ever heard of a pro ballplayer wearing a T-Ballers hat with a flimsy brim and mesh backing.

Who is this person?

I’m a little late but yes that is Fred McGriff. Flair wins.

It is Fred McGriff. The video was from Tom Emanski’s Defensive Drills Video commercial. Worst cameo ever… but apparently the best video ever — back-to-back-to-back AAU National Champions!

Everyone knows it is Fred “Crime dog” McGriff, who will be eligible for the Baseball Hall of Fame for the first time in 2010. I believe he is one of only a small handful who have hit 200 homers in both leagues.

I almost forgot about that video recorded at Tampa’s Belmont Park complex.
