A Sterling homerun call

9 Apr

sterlingcall.jpgNote: We originally ran this in January. But after today’s HR by Nick Swisher, it appears as though John Sterling still does not have a call prepared for the new Yankees outfielder. So let’s keep voting below. We’ll give the results to our guy at YES to give to Sterling.

Don’t look now, but Spring Training is less than a month away. And with the additions of pitchers CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett, as well as big bats Mark Teixeira and Nick Swisher (yeah, we added Swish to the list), this season is promising to be one of the most exciting in recent New York baseball memory. But while most fans are getting geared up to see the new Yanks don the prestigious pinstripes, we’re actually more excited to hear from Yankees famed radio announcer John Sterling this season.

Year after year, our favorite part of a new baseball season is hearing Sterling’s homerun calls for the newest Bombers. Sans Johnny Damon’s “demonic” call, we always get a hoot out of his creativity. As we approach the 2009 campaign, The Max takes a look at what Sterling’s calls for the new Yankees bats might be. Let us know which ones you like and we’ll pass it along to the YES guys (to hopefully pass it along to Sterling):

Mark Teixeira

  • It’s just not fair-a, Mark Teixeira!
  • It’s Tex Time for the Bombers
  • Texual healing, oh baby! (a play off Marvin Gaye’s song, Sexual Healing)
  • Mark sends a Tex message
  • Tex is on the Mark
  • Mark it down!
  • How dare ya, Mark Teixeira
  • Teixeira tattoos one
  • Tex connects!

Which homerun call do you like best for Mark Teixeira?
( surveys)

Nick Swisher

  • Swish goes boom!
  • Nick the Stick goes deep
  • Swish gets sweet
  • Nick is quick to the punch

How about Nick Swisher?

Or maybe you don’t like any of these options. That’s ok. Just leave your recommendations below.

John Sterling’s home run call for Mark Teixeira:
    TEX MARKS THE SPOT!

On other blogs, the consensus has been “Tex marks the spot.” As for Swisher, the “It Is High” blog came up with “Swishin’ Impossible.” I like it! Now let’s see if he’s a Yankee on Opening Day.

Our problem with “Tex marks the spot” is that it is so similar to Sterling’s call for Xavier Nady. So we omitted that one completely… tried to be a bit more creative.

What are your choices Max boys? And was it okay that a Red Sox fan voted?

Of course, it’s OK that a Sox fan votes. We’re equal opportunity pollers. I like Texual Healing and Swish goes boom. – Jack

my favorite is when he goes “it’s high, it’s far, it’s caught in short right field!”

I can’t see Sterling making any call that implies a text message.
For Swisher, I like “Pow! Right in kisser, for Swisher!”

I see all of these other Tex calls, but you should think about adding to the poll….TEX MARKS THE SPOT! I can see Sterling saying that.

I didn’t read the other comments about TEX marks the spot. However, even though it’s close to Nady’s call, I really think that’s gonna be what John uses.

The only Yankee that can ever go “Boom” is Bernie Williams.

I like Texual Healing and Swishin Impossible, though John would never use any reference to anything with the word sex involved.

Sorry guys I gotta say for Nick it’s gotta be “Swisher SWEET!!!”.

    Texiera…dunno ’bout that one.

    Texual Healing hands down, LOL..
As for Swish.. there’s not many creative home run calls you can come up with for “Nick Swisher” but I think I’d add “.. And DJ Swish turns up the volume with that one!”
