Breaking news: Pavano injured … again!

7 Jan

Just moments after signing with the Cleveland Indians, Carl Pavano has sustained yet another season-ending injury. According to reports, the righty became the victim of a nasty paper cut while handing the contract over to his agent after signing it. The cut, which is on his glove hand, won’t require surgery (or a Band-Aid), but will keep him off the mound in 2009.

After being treated at a local medical facility, Pavano told reporters that he has no plans on refunding the $1.5 million he will get from the Indians this year. “Why should I give it back? I took much more than that from the Yankees, and I only gave them nine wins over four years.”

Unreported 2002 Winter Olympics blunder

7 Jan

Most people won’t remember the failed attempts by a fringe group of “athletes” who made a push to make snow tube racing an official event of the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. (This is true, we promise.)

Some gold-medal hopefuls held prelims at a local ski resort thinking they could make gains in popularity behind their protests to the International Olympic Committee (IOC). But it wasn’t just the snow tubers who were trying to make a name for themselves; there was one reporter looking to make his big break into the national news scene by covering the “event.”

Unfortunately, the goof apparently never enrolled in News Reporting 101 at school — which is to report the news, not become part of it.

Its Mark Teixeira Day

6 Jan

The entire online baseball community is talking about Mark Teixeira being introduced as the newest New York Yankee today. Many of these sites will feature video from the press conference, but none of them will dust of this classic. It’s dated, but well worth the view:

And for some videos of Teixeria in a Yankees uniform, check out YES’ YouTube.

Worst sportscaster in the galaxy

6 Jan
There can be no debate — this is the worst display of commentary in the long history of bad commentating. Even the bottom of the barrel — Dennis Miller — was never this awful.
The video is a few years old, as demonstrated by the fact that Reggie Miller is still an active member of the Pacers and Jason Kidd is sporting a Nets jersey, but watching this dude, Brian Collins, figuratively pee his pants live on TV is priceless.
If you’ve ever heard the expression, “Boom goes the dynamite,” this is where it originated. Runtime: 3:54

NBC opts to lose credibility

6 Jan

If you thought NBC’s 18-man NFL studio show was tough to watch up to this point, just wait ’til you get a load of this. Turns out former Lions President and CEO Matt Millen has been added to the panel. Yeah, the same Matt Millen that put together the 0-16 Detroit squad (what’s next? Ryan Leaf analyzing the league’s quarterbacks?). Apparently, providing expert opinions from credible football sources is not a priority for them. But hey, at least Millen knows he stinks:

The truth behind Dominique Franks diss of Tim Tebow

5 Jan

The REAL reason Oklahoma cornerback Dominique Franks doesn’t think Tim Tebow is worthy of his 2007 Heisman Trophy has nothing to do with the fact that Tebow doesn’t play in the Big 12, which is what was reported by every national news source that picked up the story.

Leave it to The Max to find the truth behind Franks’ outburst, and here it is:
When a receiver blows by D. Franks for a touchdown, the gal in the photo below isn’t waiting for him after the game to tell him everything will be alright. That’s because she’s too busy giving Timmy a hug for tossing another game-winning TD pass. Case closed.
