Inside the mind of The Max, part 8

9 Apr

Here’s the newest set of questions that have been occupying our every
thought. Let us know if you’re thinking what we’re thinking.

  • wwwaaa.jpgDid you really expect the Yankees to go 162-0? Let’s just settle for 160-2 and move on.
  • Why is it big news that Terrell Owens reported to late to Bills voluntary workouts? It would be bigger news if he reported on time, don’t you think?
  • Do you find Kimberly Jones and Bob Lorenz‘s blogs as refreshing as we do? More baseball personalities should do this.
  • France’s anti-doping agency claims Lance Armstrong broke its rules. Do you care? We sure as heck don’t. Go away, Lance.
  • Shouldn’t we all take it easy on Joba Chamberlain (regarding his comments, not the whole DUI thing)? We’ve all said stupid things in the past. Heck, The Max posts stupid things on this blog all the time. It doesn’t mean we don’t love Yogi.
  • After one inning in Texas today, Carl Pavano gave up five earned runs. Maybe we should be happy that he rarely pitched for the Yankees, right? No, we’re not bitter.
  • As we write this, Mark Teixeira just went yard. OK Baltimore, you now have a reason to boo him. (So that wasn’t in the form of a question. What is this, jeopardy?)

The Maxs Word Association Game

After the mediocre success of the first installment of our word association game (see part one here), we decided to bring it back for round 2. Enjoy.

Inside the mind of The Max, part 6

11 Mar

Here’s the newest set of questions that have been occupying our every
thought. Let us know if you’re thinking what we’re thinking.

  • ned.jpgWho’s gonna tell the Netherlands that they misspelled their own name on their WBC uniforms?
  • Now that Joba Chamberlain had a good start (against the Reds Tuesday), can we all stop worrying about if he’s going to be any good this season?
  • Should we instead focus on CC Sabathia getting knocked around by the Tigers today (sarcasm)?
  • Did you know that if a WBC game goes into extra innings, baserunners are automatically placed on first and second base? No joke. Sounds more dumb than the NFL’s overtime rules.
  • When will NFL teams stop giving Terrell Owens opportunities? Poor Trent Edwards.
  • Is it OK that we lost just a little bit of respect for Lawrence Taylor after watching him on Dancing with the Stars?
  • If Sean Avery isn’t going to be the same controversial Sean Avery, shouldn’t the Rangers just send him packing … again? No sense in employing a bruiser if he’s gonna act like a girl.
  • Why aren’t you following us on Twitter?

Reality TV is about to get really bad

2 Feb

irvin.jpgIf you thought Britney and Kevin’s Chaotic reality show was a good idea, you’re gonna love this: It looks like not only Terrell Owens will be getting his own reality show, but so is the equally-annoying former wide receiver Michael Irvin.

Owens’ show, which will air on VH1, will follow him and his best friends and publicists as they try to re-examine his personal life. Spike TV will produce Irvin’s show, which will follow the Hall of Famer as he looks to find somebody good enough to make the Dallas Cowboys training camp roster.
If you ask us, they both sound like perfect stinkers! It truly amazes us that people would care to follow these bums as they continue to make fools of themselves. Furthermore, we are even more confused as to why it seems like the wide receiver position is the most annoying position on the football field. Seriously, why does this position produce so many divas? If you know the answer, let us know. In the meantime, check out our list of the biggest wide receiver divas in NFL history (notice how many of them turned out to be nobodies):

10: Jerry Porter
The only guy in NFL history to root against his team. But you gotta love that he parked in Al Davis’ parking spot. Classic.

9: Deion Branch
Just put your uni on and play.

8: Javon Walker
Unfortunately for him, what happens in Vegas doesn’t necessarily stay in Vegas.

7: Chris Henry
We don’t have time to list it all. Just check it out here.

6: Randy Moss
Rumor has it the entire state of Minnesota stays off the streets any time Moss comes to town to play the Vikings. Good idea.

5: Plaxico Burress
Hey, Giants fans. Should we give Plax another shot?

4: Michael Irvin
We’re not sure what’s more prolific – his NFL stats or his rap sheet. This guy’s been arrested more times than Mike Tyson and Charles Barkley combined.

3: Keyshawn Johnson
We actually consider Keyshawn to be the “Godfather” of diva wideouts. In our eyes, it was his book, “Just Give Me the Damn Ball!,” that started this whole phenomenon in motion. So the next time, a Giants wide receiver goes and shoots himself, you’ll have Keyshawn to thank.

2: Chad Johnson
His ridiculous name change, horrible taste in sweaters and poor hair styles are just the tip of the iceberg.

1: Terrell Owens
When was the last time you did situps in your driveway while the media watched?

You spoke, they listened

24 Jan

Last week, we asked you to comment on YES’ newest web show so that the producers could get it perfect before they debut it on their site. Well, it looks like they took a lot of your suggestions, especially the one to make it shorter. Here’s Take 2 of the pilot-episode process. (who gets two shots at a pilot?) Be sure to leave your comments below, even if they are lame comments like the one LaneMyer left last week.

What to look for in 2009

29 Dec

Like Nostradamus, The Max likes to have a little fun by predicting the future. Unlike Nostradamus, however, we think our predictions actually have a solid chance at becoming a reality. Here’s what The Max wants you to look out for in 2009:

After the Tampa Bay Rays finish April in 3rd place in the AL East, nearly every sports writer in America will use the term “hangover” to describe their lackluster play.

John Daly will eat more fried chicken than the Colonel ever intended one man to ever eat. Expect a couple arrests, too.

trhat.jpgTony Romo will continue to wear that ridiculous looking hat. But that’s not the hook – Jessica Simpson will finally see him wearing the hat during a post-game press conference and promptly kick him to the curb (it’s about time).

Terrell Owens will also continue to wear that same hat, but look good while doing it. Editor’s note: Give it up, Tony. Neither the hat, nor the girl, make you look even remotely cool.

Look for the Mets’ closer controversy to start early. After K-Rod blows a few saves in April, Mets fans will begin begging for J.J. Putz to start closing games.

This web site will continually prove its immaturity by making 36 ridiculously bad J.J. Putz name jokes by the All-Star break.

Aaron Heilman will finally get a chance to become a starting pitcher. Unfortunately for the Mariners, though, the fact that he only has two pitches will continue to plague him. Just like in New York, look for Aaron “The Crybaby” Heilman to end up in the bullpen by year’s end.

Brett Favre will retire.

One of the Spears girls will become pregnant… again. Odds are it will be Jamie Lynn, but don’t count out Britney or mother Lynne.

Brett Favre will unretire.

In an attempt to clear cap room, the New York Knicks will trade David Lee, Nate Robinson, Chris Duhon and anybody else with a glimmer of talent. Fast forward to 2010, LeBron will end up in New Jersey.

Jealous men everywhere (us included) will continue to make fun of Tom Brady, even though the truth is he is probably the raddest dude to ever walk planet earth.

College football will continue to miss the boat by not implementing a true playoff system.

People will continue to watch college football, despite the fact that there is not a true playoff system.

Tracy Morgan will finally be recognized as the funniest man alive.

O.J. Simpson will rot in jail (better late than never).

Will Ferrell will make yet another average movie about some fringe sport. Our guess is badmitton, but you never know with him. Anything would be better than Blades of Glory.

Greg Oden will be diagnosed with the same thing Brad Pitt’s character had in that Benjamin Button movie. Damn, that kid looks old.

The XFL 2.0 will attempt fill the void left behind by the vacationing Arena Football League. Unfortunately for Vince McMahon, however, his second attempt at putting together a legitimate football league will resemble his attempt to bring pro wrestling back to prominence. The Boogeyman? Really?

Despite Jerry Jones’ claims, Wade Phillips will join Eric Mangini, Romeo Crennel and Rod Marinelli in the NFL unemployment line. Speaking of the Cowboys, we think we find this guy entertaining, but we’re not sure yet. Let us know.

Brett Favre will retire.

There you have it – The Max’s best guess at what will happen in 2009. What do you think? Do you have a prediction? If so, leave it below; we’d love to read it.
